How to attach or weld a colourbond fence ontop of a concrete sleeper retaining wall

Can you install a colorbond fence ontop of a concrete sleeper retaining wall? yes you can. Please watch the video Above for more info.

This is a great and cost effective method of installing a colourbond fence ontop of a retaining wall, we have used it for years and have not had a problem, as long as you attach the plates correctly.

STEP 1: Once you have installed your steel beams for your retaining wall into place you can go ahead and weld or attach the bracket that will be used to install your fence posts, its good to leave the sleepers out at this stage of the process so you can easily weld along the top and down the side to make sure you have enough weld onto the beam. the steel plates we use on a job are 50mm wide 8m thick flat bar cut to length from mild steel. Tack a weld on your plate then level the plate then go ahead and weld that beggar on!! (if you cant weld you could use bolts instead to bolt onto the steel beam)

You can get these steel plates pretty cheap from a local steel merchant. Call us for more info if needed.

STEP 2: Once the plate is welded and level, go ahead and put the rest of the sleepers into place, and fit them nice and tight. Back filling might also help to install the fence so you wont need a ladder later on in the process.

STEP 3: Screw you colourbond panel fence posts together like you usually would when doing a panel fence in colourbond. Then simply sleeve the post over the plate and screw the plate and post together using "series 500 tek screws" these screws are great and can pre drill through 5mm steel, so if your flat bar isn't pre-drilled these screws do it for you anyway. Put 1 screw in then level your post and then put in a few more.

STEP 4: All you do now is install the fence panel as you normally would when installing a panel fence in colourbond, do one panel at a time and screw your top rail off as you go.
